Young children were pictured being carried out of the building by men. Women and children also ran onto the streets as gunfire was heard overhead. A man was heard saying that the shells are falling over the heads of the women and children. The Associated Press has no independent means of verifying the location or date of the footage as international media access to Syria is restricted. Syrian government forces allegedly shelled the central city of Homs on Monday, striking a makeshift medical clinic and residential areas and killing at least 70 people in the third day of a new assault on the epicentre of the country's uprising, according to activists. Similar scenes were reportedly continuing on Tuesday in Syria's third largest city. Another video also filmed on Monday showed wounded being treated in a Homs medical clinic. The doctor can be heard saying, "We can't do anything for him. The injuries are very, very, very serious. We are waiting for him to be martyred." More amateur video from the the neighbourhood of Baba Amr in Homs purportedly filmed on Tuesday, showed black smoke rising over residential areas and contained audio of shelling. Amateur video was also released on Monday from Homs showing similar scenes. Homs has become a flashpoint of the nearly 11-month-old uprising against President Bashar Assad. Several neighbourhoods in the city, such as Baba Amr, are under the control of rebels. Syria has blocked access to trouble spots and prevented independent reporting, making it nearly impossible to verify accounts from either side. The Assad regime says "terrorists" acting out a foreign conspiracy to destabilise the country are behind the uprising, not people seeking to transform the authoritarian regime. More than 5,400 people have been killed in Syria since the uprising began in March, the U.N. said early last month.
