More Afghan Violence Despite Obama Apology

Protests, some erupting in violence, were continuing across Afghanistan Thursday over US soldiers burning copies of the Koran. President Obama wrote a formal letter of apology to Afghan leader Hamid Karzai.

Mid shot of demonstrators burning US flag and stamping on itSCRIPTGunfire was crackling in Baghlan province in northern Afghanistan, one of seven provinces across the country where angry demonstrations were continuing, days after the US said soldiers mistakenly burned copies of the Quran at a military base outside Kabul.In one eastern city officials said two American soldiers were killed when a man in an Afghan army uniform shot at them during a protest. In Baghlan at least one protester was killed and several others were hurt.in Mehtarlam City to the east of the country, smoke was rising from inside the walls surrounding an air base that also houses a reconstruction team. Crowds tried and failed to break in, as soldiers fired into the air to keep them back.But at least one man was wounded, he had to be helped away. The Taliban have urged Afghans to respond by attacking foreign troops.
