Last year the Nobel Prize for Physics was awarded for the discovery that the universe is expanding at an increasing pace. The reason, according to theory, has to be an unknown, dark energy.
German astrophysicist Thomas Reiprich set out to find out more about this phenomenon, for example, how much of the stuff exists. His tools might seem modest: telescope shots of galaxies and high-performance computers. Reiprich's work, however, addresses a major issue in the world of astrophysics, and further Nobel Prizes coming from this area are not unlikely.
