Futuristic Gizmos Show Japan Hasn't Lost Its Tech Edge

Gadgets galore were on display at the busy CEATEC conference just outside Tokyo, many uniquely Japanese. Jon Gordon shows you the most eye-catching of the bunch.

Here at Japan's CEATEC, the biggest electronics exhibition in Asia, 4K TV has been the headline technology. But beyond that, a ton of other cool tech has been on display, from the weird, to the wacky and the wonderful. We went up and down the aisles, on foot and otherwise, to uncover the most interesting of tomorrow's electronics, today. Number 4. Sony's second generation HMZ headset. A personal 3D video system. It's light, it's comfy, plus you get that futuristic visor look that tells the ladies you are single and ready to mingle.. with their World of Warcraft avatar. (SOUNDBITE) (English) REUTERS REPORTER, JON GORDON, SAYING: "Wow.. okay, I'm looking at Spiderman right now in 3D... and that's a lot of Spiderman right in my face." The other downside? The price tag. At 900 bucks, it doesn't come cheap. Number 3... Sharp's brand smacking new 1080P smartphone screen. (SOUNDBITE) (English) REUTERS REPORTER, JON GORDON, SAYING: "This is the new 5" panel from Sharp, it's made for mobile, you can see in comparison to the 4S, it's quite a bit larger, but also the PPI is just, you see a lot more resolution for that space. So this is going to be the panel you'll see in a lot of mobile phones coming in 2013." Number 2... The muscle suit. (SOUNDBITE) (English) REUTERS REPORTER, JON GORDON, SAYING: "A collaboration between the Tokyo University of Science and KOA, this super EXO-skeleton uses air pressure to grant you extra lifting power. Okay, Very roboto." Resisting my natural instinct to go fight crime, I instead put the extra muscle to work lifting these moderately heavy bags of rice. Who knows you might see these in the rice section of the supermarket next year. Number One? The NSC-2015.
