After scrapping campaign events Monday and racing back to the White House, President Barack Obama issued a warning to tens of millions of Americans likely to be affected by Hurricane Sandy: Listen to emergency authorities and evacuate when ordered.

"The most important message to the public I have right now, is 'please listen to what your state and local officials are saying.' When they tell you to evacuate you need to evacuate," Obama said in a televised White House appearance.
