The hurricane, dubbed Frankenstorm, was also a hot topic on the red carpet at the UK Cosmo Awards on Tuesday (October 30). X Factor judge and former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger said she had been concerned for her friends. SOUNDBITE: Nicole Scherzinger, on superstorm Sandy, saying (English): "Some of my friends are in New York and they're ok. My girlfriend said, she's just fine. She just has a new accessory around her neck, which is her head lamp." Socialite Kelly Osbourne had also been in touch with her NY pals. SOUNDBITE: Kelly Osbourne, on superstorm Sandy, saying (English): "Oh my God, I called my friend yesterday and I go 'Have you left?' And he goes, 'no'. And I go, 'are you out of your mind?' And he's like, 'no I'm celebrating Sandy.' And I'm like, 'what are you doing? Get out of New York City.' He goes, 'I'm on the fourteenth floor, honey. It'll be fine.' Cut to two seconds later, I hear him go, 'Oh ****!' And I'm like, 'what's going on?' And he goes, 'the tree just fell off of somebody's else's building and has landed on the balcony below me.' And I'm like, 'get out of New York', but I keep checking up on everyone but my mum was meant to be there, so I'm so glad she's not." Both Scherzinger and Osbourne were among the recipients of Britain's Cosmopolitan Ultimate Women of The Year Awards. Nicole was crowned Ultimate Fun Fearless Female, while Osbourne, who has recently donned a more slender figure, was named Ultimate Style Icon by the Cosmo jury. SOUNDBITE: Kelly Osbourne, accepting her award for Ultimate Style Icon, saying (English): "In 2006 I never ever thought that I would be standing on a stage winning a style icon award." Now in its seventh year, the showbiz bash celebrates the achievements of both real-life women and celebrities.
