Chicago Hails Victory of Their Hometown Hero Obama

Obama supporters in Chicago turned out by the hundreds to celebrate the president's re-election at a free breakfast in his old Hyde Park neighborhood. They say they want their hometown hero to work on fixing the economy - and that it's time for Congress to fall in line with his leadership.

SCRIPT: Obama wins, and in Chicago there's singing in the streets. NAT SOUND 1 VOX POP (woman singing, English, 10 sec): "History be made again Obama has won it all! Obama! Obama! Obama! Obama!" After a night of victory, hundreds of Obama supporters line up for a free breakfast at a local diner. The wait is long, but no one's in a bad mood -- their hometown hero has made them proud. SOUNDBITE 2 VOX POP (man, English, 9 sec): "Being the first black president, being voted twice for re-election. Two times in a row. Come on now, that's all we got to say!" Now that the long campaign is over, people here say he can get back to work on fixing the country's number one problem. SOUNDBITE 3 VOX POP (woman, English, 4 sec): "Well, he needs to reach across the aisles, and they need to do something about the economy." And they'd like to see more co-operation from a defiant Republican-led HouseA. SOUNDBITE 4 VOX POP (man, English, 10 asec): "Couldn't change the country in four years, so this gives him the opportunity to get things done that he planned on doing in the first place. If everybody works together with him, that's the key." The country may be still be divided after such a bitter race for the White House.
