87.8 million dollars is today's daily digit - the amount James Bond's Skyfall has taken at the US box office. It's outperforming all previous Bond movies - and they go back 50 years. Since its release at the end of October, Skyfall has earned the franchise 500 million dollars globally. It stands to make another 400 million dollars from product placement deals. Barbara Broccoli is one of the film's producers. SOUNDBITE: Barbara Broccoli, producer, saying (English): "It's our baby and we feel very, very protective over the Bond franchise, it's something our father started over 50 years ago and he had great passion for it and we have just been carrying the flame." The first film was released in 1962. Dr No starred Sean Connery and was a huge gamble. It cost 1 million dollars to make - an eye-popping amount at the time. But the series of movies that followed grossed over 5 billion dollars in revenue. And the latest 87.8 million dollar bonanza proves Bond still has a license to sell.
