Portrait of Picasso's 'Golden Muse' Up for Sale

Sotheby's London is offering Picasso's 1932 portrait of Marie-Therese Walter for sale, which is estimated to fetch 40 million to 55 million dollars.

She was one of Pablo Picasso's most beloved muses: Marie-Therese Walter. And a 1932 painting of the artist's golden muse is up for sale at the Impressionist and Modern Art auction at Sotheby's in London. The auction house estimates the painting will sell between 40 million and 55 million U.S. dollars -- which is a reasonable price, according Sotheby's Helena Newman. So, it represents a real opportunity for a collector to buy a museum quality painting coming out of private hands." Another centerpiece of the upcoming sale is this water lilies painting by Claude Monet which has never previously been seen at auction. Also going under the hammer are these rare-to-market paintings by early 20th century artist Egon Shiele, that Newman thinks might set a new world record for a work on paper. All are scheduled to change hands on February 5.
