Stones Scoop Two NME Awards as Ronnie Wood Joins Johnny Marr on Stage

Two of the world's best known guitarists came together on stage Wednesday for the NME awards in London. Ronnie Wood from the Rolling Stones joined Johnny Marr formerly of the Smiths to perform the latter's track 'How Soon is Now'. Wood also collected best live act on behalf of the Stones, who reurned to the stage late last year to celebrate 50 years in the business. SOUNDITE, Ronnie Wood, Stones guitarist, saying (English): "You know, the boys, they're gonna be really honoured to find this out. And, you know, we've only waited 50 years for it, so it's not a bad time to wait. Thank you." The Stones also won best film for their documentary Crossfire Hurricance. Wood said before the ceremony that he wanted to do more live shows, including playing Glastonbury. SOUNDBITE, Ronnie Wood, Stones guitarist, saying (English): "Keep your eye out because you know I want to do some more (live shows) and I know that the boys do too." As ever at the NMEs, the night belonged to the winner of the 'Godlike genius' award - this year the honour went to guitarist Johnny Marr, who founded the Smiths with Morrisey: SOUNDBITE, Johnny Marr, guitarist, saying: "Well it feels okay because I have had a halo around my head for thirty years and noone has ever acknowledged it so about time, I don't need to be carrying around this burden anymore, I was the only person who knew it." Other big winners included Florence Welch who picked up best female solo artist and the Killers who colleced best international band.
