A New York City man with a lengthy criminal record surrendered to police on Wednesday, ending a manhunt for the driver who fled the scene of a deadly hit-and-run crash. The 44-year-old Brooklyn man earlier killed a young couple; their unborn child was later delivered by C-section, but then also died. The victims were both 21-year-old from a close-knit Orthodox Jewish community in Williamsburg. They were on their way to the hospital when their taxi was hit broadside by a grey BMW sedan just after midnight on Sunday. The New York Daily News reported that the suspect said he fled the scene of the accident because he was afraid of being shot.
